Item Description

A very sad and poignant mourning sampler worked in black silk thread upon perforated punch paper ground. Wrought in 1866 likely by baby Harry's mother or sisters.
The sampler remembers baby Harry Fry who departed this life on May 15th 1866 just 15 months old. Underneath Harry's details we see a little poem:

The lovely bud do young and fair
Called hence by early doom
Just come to show how sweet a flower
In paradise can bloom

Hosed behind old bubbled glass in its original and very simple black and gold frame. These Victorian mourning samplers, especially for children, remind us of the high mortality rates of the 19th century.

The perfect addition to your collection. Little Harry's memory lives on nearly 200 years later.

Size: Frame height 8 inch (20 cm) by width 9 3/4 inch (25 cm)

Condition: Some light foxing by the bottom decorative stitched bar. A touched up chip to the black frame top right corner.
