Antique Staffordshire Miniature Spill Vase Shepherd Boy and Dog C 1850 AF

A very sweet, and very charming little Staffordshire pottery flat back spill vase from the mid nineteenth century. Depicting a young boy sat under the bough of a tree with his dog on his lap - possibly a shepherd boy. Dating to 1850s this small little pottery vase's purpose was to sit on your mantle shelf, as a pair, a girl and sheep possibly. Your would use this vase to store your tapers (spills) that was used to light the fire and candles.

This all original, genuine Staffordshire spill vase is crisply modelled with nice detailing, shredded clay additions to mimic leaves and grass. The little spaniel is particularly sweet.

Size: 4 3/8 inch tall (11 cm).

Condition: Not perfect he has a couple of chips, one to his hat brim and one to the front base edge. A factory drying crack to his neck, this is not damage.
