Item Description

We are sad to part with this little antique George III, Regency period pottery cradle as it is one of the prettiest that we have retailed over the past 30 years. This sweet little pottery cradle was made by the Staffordshire potteries around the 1820 period. Their original purpose was to be given as marriage and or christening gifts, to bless the parents with the promise of a new life.

We see a hooded wicker cradle containing a sleeping girl who has just awoken. She rests her head on a tasselled pillow. She lies on top of a pinky mauve blanket. She has her eyes open and her Regency Empire waist dress is particularly decorative with those polychrome enamelled flowers.

A rare little item in very good condition.

Size: 4 inch long )10 cm), height 2 ¾ inch (7 cm)

Condition: Wonderful, free of chips, hairlines or restoration. Minor kiln dust flecks in the glaze, part of the manufacturing process.
