Antique Straw Work Valentine Pocket Watch Chain Woven Straw Love Token Fob Circa 1860

A scarce survivor when one considers its age and composition. This is the perfect addition to your pocket watch collection or a fabulous addition to your cabinet of curiosities. This mid 19th century example was very intricately made perhaps to be sold to a sailor when docked at an exotic overseas location for him to give as a keepsake/memento once he has returned home. We can imagine such intricate items of indigenous materials being sold at the harbor side stalls.

The main design being 7 lozenge shape diamonds made from woven and twisted grass/wicker. Each lozenge attached by 4 teeny wicker rings. Two suspension hooks made from boiled twigs wrapped in woven grass/straw. The original love heart fob suspended from the end, again made from a twig framework wrapped in straw/wicker with intricate central filigree design.

Length: 35 cm (13.75") in total including love heart fob.

Condition: Very good complete condition. Due to the age and fragile nature of the natural composition, we would not recommend usage.
