Antique Victorian Portrait Silhouette Lady Wearing Spectacles English Circa 1840
Item Description
This delightful portrait silhouette of a lady was produced in England during the 19th century, circa 1840. This is a highly unusual silhouette as the female sitter is seen wearing spectacles! This is a coloured silhouette with detailing in white and gold tones, this is an uncommon style of silhouette. The artist uses the light paint and gold to bring out areas of interest to the viewer.
The cut paper silhouette is housed behind old glass in a period correct frame with ornate, gilt, rococo style detailing and inner gilt metal mount. This is the perfect conversation piece, ideal for anyone who has a passion for early silhouettes.
Measuring: Frame width 5 7/8 inch (14.5 cm) by height 6 inch (15 cm). Aperture width 2 ¼ inch (5.5 cm) by height 2 ¾ inch (7 cm).
Condition: A few small areas of gesso missing to frame. The paper surrounding the silhouette is a little aged worn with some stress marks and creases to the paper.
