Item Description

A work of art in porcelain for your shelf. This tiny Georgian era porcelain confection dates to the 1815-1820 period. Unmarked, but clearly manufactured by Chamberlain's of Worcester, manufacturers of fine porcelain in England between the years 1788 to 1852.

This small handled basket is encrusted with teeny hand modelled seashells, coral and seaweed around its perimeter. To the centre is a gilt edged cartouche filled with hand painted still life fruit arrangement of peaches and cherries. The central cartouche surrounded by a deep magenta pink ground. Having its original naturalistic carrying handle.

Ref: A similar basket with a view of Malvern Abbey is illustrated by Geoffrey Godden, Chamberlain-Worcester Porcelain (1982), p.166, fig.204

Size: 2 3/4 inch tall (7cm) by 3 inch at its widest point ( 7.5 cm) by 4 inch long (10cm).

Condition: Good display condition but with old repairs and damages. The handle has three old animal glue repairs. A couple of teeny chips to the shell/seaweed tips very minor. A 1/8 inch short hairline only visible to the underside edge.

A superb little basket for your early English porcelain collection.
