Georgian Miniature Engravings King George III & Queen Charlotte Circa 1780

It is hard to imagine how two tiny 1700s pictures have remained together for over 200 years. The answer is because they are beautiful and tell a part of English Royal History, they have been cherished by subsequent owners down the centuries. You now have the opportunity to become a part of their continued story as their tiny size means that they are just perfect for your gallery wall, or shelf display.

This rare pair of Royal engravings were printed in England circa 1780s. The sanguine (blood red) coloured prints features a profile portrait of King George III and Queen Charlotte.
George III (b 1738 – d 1820) was King of Great Britain and Ireland from 25 October 1760 until his death in 1820. The Acts of Union 1800 unified Great Britain and Ireland into the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, with George as its king.

Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (b 1744 – d 1818) was Queen of Great Britain and Ireland as the wife of King George III from their marriage on 8 September 1761 until her death in 1818.

The engravings are housed behind old glass in their original oval fruitwood frames. This is sooo rare to have them in their original 1700s frames!!The engravings have been trimmed to fit the frame with the remains of the text sections beneath the prints cut and applied verso (a very common practice).

This is the perfect pair of engravings for anyone who loves British history, in particular the Royal Family.

Measuring: Frame width 3 3/8 inch (8.5 cm) by height 4 1/8 inch (11 cm). Aperture width 1 ¾ inch (4.5 cm) by height 2 3/8 inch (6 cm).

Condition: Good, genuine patina. Both frames appear unopened. Historic repaired crack to Queen Charlotte frame at 6 o’clock which is perfectly stable and again very common on oval and circular frames. Also a minor area of discolouration to paper. There is minor old debris behind the glass of George. Lightest surface wear to both frame commensurate with age.
