Georgian Needlepoint Mourning Case Beaded Floral Wallet 1830s
Item Description
An unusual little mourning item from the 1830 period. This small black silk lined wallet, cigar case was made in memory of a male relative called Charles Latcham. The unusual part is that the body of the case is made from tole metal mesh which has been used a s the ground canvas for the floral wool and silk embroidery.
To the front is a woolwork, tent stitch design of three English flowers. Beneath this we see the name is gilt metal beadwork. To each end is a floral design and also the reverse features a very pretty gilt beadwork floral basket surrounded by other floral motifs.
Sadly the original securing clasp has broken away but will be included just in case it can be repaired.
Size: 5 1/8" (13 cm) by 3.25" (8.5 cm)
A rare little treasure for a needlework or purse collection.
