Georgian Silhouette Portrait Young Gentleman Circa 1810 By William Seville

This handsome portrait silhouette was painted in England during the early 19th century, circa 1810. This came from a collection of silhouettes by William Seville (b 1797 – d 1866). He did paint, rather than cut silhouettes during the early part of his long career.

The silhouette feature features a gentleman in profile view; we adore his strong features, especially his chin! Quite the character, a dashing Regency gent!

The hand painted silhouette has been expertly bronzed by the artist, hand painted gold detailing to bring out areas of light and detail in the sitter’s clothing and hair. The silhouette is housed behind convex glass in its original papier mache frame.

Measuring: Frame width 4 1/8 inch (10.5 cm) by height 4 ¾ inch (12 cm). Aperture width 1 7/8 inch (5 cm) by height 2 3/8 inch (6 cm).

Condition: Please excuse reflections on the curved glass. Light surface wear to frame. A few small fleabites to frame edges. Top hanger missing. Some gum arabic dots to his face.
