Item Description
This wonderfully original pencil drawing was produced in Germany during the late 19th century. The graphite portrait features a man wearing a hat smoking a pipe and is by the artist Hermann Groeber (b 1865 – d 1935). Groeber was an esteemed German artist, known as a painter of 'connoisseurship and character' who studied at the Art Academy in Munich. Groeber predominately worked in oil but also worked in watercolour, ink, charcoal and graphite.
The drawing is signed by the artist bottom right. Bottom left we find an inscription by the artist in German. The portrait is housed behind glass in its original frame.
This is a fascinating item by a sought after and highly regarded artist. Framed and ready to hang.
Measuring: Frame width 6.5 inch (16.5 cm) by height 7 7/8 inch (20 cm). Aperture width 3.75 inch (10 cm) by height 5 1/8 inch (13 cm).
Condition: Age related toning to paper, a vertical crease to top left corner of the card mount/mat.
