Miniature Georgian Pocket Watch Paper Rural Scene Circa 1790 Pressed Brass Frame

This charming and very ancient little engraving was produced in England during the late 18th century, circa 1780 to 1790. The blue print is housed behind old eglomise glass in its original circular pressed brass frame. The print features a rural scene with a bridge over a river with a cottage in the foreground and a mountain in the background. It is the perfect size for a larger doll's house or toy room.

Such small discs of decorative paper were inserted into watch cases to protect the delicate mechanisms from dust and debris. These papers as well as some being purely decorative, others often included advertisements for the watch maker or jeweler, a sort of trade card.

Measuring: Frame width 3 1/8 inch (8 cm). Aperture width 1 ¾ inch (4.5 cm).

Condition: Old stable drying crack to wood section of frame at 6 o’clock. Some flaking to the black and gilt eglomise.
