Queen Victoria Royal Needlework Needlepoint Wall Pocket 1887 Golden Jubilee

We could not resist this regal antique treasure as it is so utterly charming with its needlework and beadwork Royal crown stitched to celebrate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1887. Of course, very topical considering that this year Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee, 70 years on the throne (more than Queen Victoria by 6 years).

This regal stitchery was designed as a hanging wall pocket to display on your wall. The front pocket with the Crown needlepoint used to store your essentials, hair grips, sewing tools etc. The navy blue woven silk sash to the rear has the very finest woven braid edging that was meticulously stitched. This edging form the top integral suspension loop. The front pocket of very fine cotton canvas has a detailed border of alternating blue or beige tent stitch squares, each with a central cut steel bead. The central crown worked in red, cream, blue and brown wool tent stitch again with cut steel beadwork highlights to imitate diamonds! Around the edge a border of beige silk twist cord.

Size: Drop 13 inch (33 cm) by width 4 3/4 inch (12 cm)

Condition: This is 135 years old and so please expect some signs of age. The cotton canvas ground has darkened a little with age and has few very faint scattered rust spots. The blue silk ribbon backing has some soil marks to the reverse that do not show from the front. Some age rusting to the cut steel beads, very common. A twist in the silk edging cord at the base - this is where the needleworker joined the finished edging.
