Item Description

What a little cutie for your shelf collection of early children's mugs. This rare and decorative motto mug was made in England during the early 19th century, circa 1820. The pearlware mug features a sepia transfer printed design with hand coloured detailing. The motto reads ‘Improve Thy Time, Now In Thy Prime.’ The first recording of the motto is during the 19th century, circa 1810. This is the only known example of its use in nursery ware making this a desirable piece for a ceramics collector.

Measuring: Width including handle 3 3/8 inch (8.5 cm) by height 2 1/8 inch (5.5 cm).

Condition: Surface chip to foot rim, and three smaller chips to foot rim. Minor old perfectly stable hairline to base of handle.
