Item Description

It was love at first sight!! This very early named Mary mug with the muted prattware palette just blew us away, soooo decorative and in excellent condition for its 200 plus years. If like us you love antique folk art and that pure country look, you will need this mug in your collection. We 100 % guarantee that this ancient survivor will look fabulous displayed on your shelf, or dresser.

This stunning pearlware mug was made by one of the North East potteries in England during the 19th century, circa 1810. This George III period mug features hand painted underglaze brown text reading ‘Mary Sanders.’ The mug also features extensive hand painted scrolling floral detailing in the Pratt Ware tones of green, blue and orange.

The mug was likely given to Mary as wedding gift. This is a high-quality piece of early English pottery. Notice also the featured handle with blue painted details, similar to those found on mid to late 18th century ceramics. It is also quite unusual to find a brown band to the interior rim; this really is a fantastic example.

The mug was likely produced by Dawson’s and is perhaps a relation of Andrew Sanders who co-owned the Low Ford Pottery during the late 18th century.

This is the perfect item for anyone who loves folk art and early ceramics.

Measuring: Width including handle 4 ¼ inch (11 cm) by height 3 inch (7.5 cm).

Condition: Excellent, museum worthy condition. Very light surface wear commensurate with age.
