Item Description

This really is a little treasure, a wonderful little Tunbridge Ware perfume bottle case that was produced in Kent, England circa 1820. This gorgeous Regency whitewood case is complete with its original printed external label reading ‘A Brighton Gift.’ The screw top lid opens to reveal the inner storage compartment, now empty but once would have held a small glass vial of scented water.

Souvenir items such as this would have been manufactured in Kent and then retailed in the town listed on the label.

Brighton is a seaside resort located in the county of East Sussex, England. In the Georgian and Regency era, Brighton developed as a highly fashionable seaside resort, encouraged by the patronage of the Prince Regent, later King George IV, who spent much time in the town and constructed the famous Royal Pavilion in the Regency era.

This is a rare item in original condition, with excellent provenance from an English Tunbridge ware expert and author.

Measuring: Diameter 1 1/8 inch (2.7 cm) by height 2 1/8 inch (5.5 cm).

Condition: Two tiny chips to lid, and two small nibbles to the top rim of bottom section.
